“Utilize technology and systems to deliver accurately and timely in a way that values people.”
David first joined Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith in 2006 as an auditor. After leaving BMSS to work in the private sector of accounting for a few years, David again joined BMSS, now as the controller for the firm. His primary responsibilities include running the firm’s internal accounting processes to include billing, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Known as a driven and self-disciplined problem solver, David uses technology and business insight to help address problems and improve efficiency. He developed a tool for reporting on the efficiency and effectiveness of mechanics which gave management the insight it needed to develop a training and reward program. In addition, he used technology to automate the keying of overtime hours for payroll which greatly improved efficiency within the company.
David attributes his success to God’s grace in the form of a wife who helps him value people first, parents that instilled a strong work ethic and countless mentors who have shared their wisdom in life, business and technology.
Living in Huntsville with his wife, six children, two cats and a dog, David never lacks for excitement (or noise) in his house. He loves spending time with his family, gardening, building or fixing things around the house, working on cars, and riding motorcycles.
